The BALKAN MOODS project is the result of collaboration and artistic alchemy between five virtuoso performers who present a new repertoire for quintet, characterized by rich expressiveness and an innovative musical aesthetic. The ensemble’s repertoire is deeply influenced by the captivating melodies, intricate rhythms, and rich cultural traditions of the Balkans. It embodies a symbiosis of three genres: classical, jazz, and folk. In both the music and the performance of the quintet, one can perceive a harmonious blending of styles – where the rigor and refinement of classical form meet the freedom and improvisation of jazz, all profoundly inspired by the region’s centuries-old folk heritage.
The BALKAN MOODS program features works by prominent contemporary composers from Bulgaria and Serbia, offering a vibrant and expressive journey where the musicians’ virtuosity and artistry lead the listener through a unique and exhilarating musical voyage. Released as Balkan Moods – Bulgaresque, this album is a collection of studio and live concert recordings, including several world premieres.
